Laboratory Of Biotechnology For FOOD AND ENERGY SECURITY

Food Security 2022

Tribute To Pierre Rabhi

Pierre Rabhi, his original name Rabah Rabhi, born on May 29, 1938 in Kenadsa, Algeria, and died on December 4, 2021, in Lyon, in France. Pierre Rabhi was a French essayist, novelist, farmer, lecturer and ecologist. He was the founder of the “Colibris movement” and known as a particular figure representing political and scientific movement of agroecology worldwide.

On behalf of the organizing committee, we are pleased to invite you to participate in the first scientific day on: Food security facing the challenges «climate, agriculturale and pandemic», which will be held at the Pacha Hotel Oran, Algeria, on June 04, 2022.

Our Laboratory

The laboratory was created around a nucleus of researchers mainly concerned with the valorisation of microorganisms and plants. The proposed research areas are:

* Food safety: exploiting all existing natural mechanisms in order to increase plants yield, their tolerance to biotic and abiotic stress and their resistance to pests. Moreover, try to ensure good soil management; establish the foundations of agroecology and rational management of ecosystems and biodiversity. Finally, contribute to self-sufficiency in raw materials for food industry, while optimising quality control tests and monitoring antibiotic resistance spread.

* Energy security: this approach must not only focus on discovering new sources of bioenergy but also on avoiding the energy overconsumption of different industrial processes. So, inventory new sources for biofuel production and optimizing their productivity, use of microbial fermentation to manufacture raw material for industries that will become less energy-consuming and less polluting, by reflecting on bioprocesses as an alternative to traditional industrial approaches.
